We are New Zealand’s leading independent mortgage broker and a rapidly growing specialist lender to New Zealand homeowners, builders and developers.

Since Squirrel was established in 2008, we’ve arranged over $20 billion in mortgage lending for over 50,000 Kiwi borrowers, giving us a deep understanding of New Zealand’s residential property market. We launched our investing and lending platform in 2015, enabling retail investors to fund loans to credit-worthy Kiwi homeowners and builders whose needs aren’t being met by more traditional finance options.

All of our loans are secured by registered mortgages over New Zealand residential property and have the added protection of Squirrel’s Reserve Funds. We focus on lending to market niches that are undeserved by banks and traditional lenders. Combined, all of that means investors earn an attractive rate of return for the credit risk involved.

Squirrel originates, assesses, and manages the credit risk of loans on investors’ behalf, with our platform enabling investors to take a fractional interest in one or more loans and / or be the sole investor in a loan.

To date, we’ve funded more than $1 billion* worth of lending through the Squirrel platform—including over 1,000 individual home and construction loans originated through our nationwide network of expert mortgage advisers and property finance specialists.
